Dear musicians and music lovers from all over the world
This is exactly what The Muri Competition special: music takes place not only in the rooms of Muri Abbey, but also in everyday life in the region. There are encounters at the breakfast table, short conversations after practicing and new perspectives. An international competition becomes personal.
The first issue of The Muri Competition was born in 2013 from the vision of making my Muri - our Muri - world-famous. A truly atypical Swiss idea: our small core team set to work unassumingly and with great courage. We found visionaries in Freiamt who supported our idea both financially and in terms of content.
Today, Muri has actually become a brand in classical music that is known worldwide. A Chinese student told me in 2023 that she didn't know that Muri was a village - she only knew the name as a competition that was known in China.
In 2026, the eyes of the entire double reed community will once again be on Muri. The Muri Competition stands for international excellence and at the same time for the genuine promotion of young talent: young oboists and bassoonists are given a stage, feedback at the highest level and formative experiences for their future careers.
I would like to thank everyone - from the host families, the volunteers and the entire core team to our long-standing patrons and sponsors. This mixture of professionalism and personal closeness makes The Muri Competition from.
